In this Certification update, we're profiling one of our auditors Alan Paulson.

We're sharing our congratulations to Gareth White (G White Logging), winner of the Safetree Good Deed Award at the 2023 Central North Island Forestry Awards.

Plus, watch one of our Certified Contractors Knight Logging, talking about their new T-Winch.

It's also that time of year where certified contractors will recieve your annual invoice directly from FISC in the next few weeks. As per last year, we have tried to keep the cost of this to a minimum.

If there is anything you need, please reach out to me at any time. Thanks for reading.

Meet the Auditors: Alan Paulson

Working in forestry for the past 33 years, Alan Paulson has built up a wealth of industry knowledge. Born and raised in Gisborne, Alan was first introduced to forestry through his first vocation as a Diesel Mechanic. He’s since spent his forestry career working in various areas of the industry, including as a machine operator, specialist tree faller, rigger and trainer on steep and difficult East Coast terrain.

Alan’s business Tairawhiti Timber Training provides a range of auditing, training, mentoring and specialised tree falling services throughout the country.

When Safetree Certification launched 5-6 years ago, it was a natural opportunity for Alan to get involved with and put his skills to use as a Safetree Auditor. He is one of two Safetree Auditors qualified to audit all aspects of Safetree Certification, including Contractor Certification as well as individual specialist worker certification for tree-falling and breaking-out.

“My background in forestry really helps me to understand what people are doing when I conduct and audit,” says Alan. “I’m familiar with the problems they have and am able to offer practical help and advice. Being a business owner also helps, as I employ staff myself and understand some of the challenges that comes with that.”

Congrats to Gareth White, Safetree Good Deeds award winner

A massive shout out to Gareth White from G White Logging, who won the Good Deed Award sponsored by Safetree at the recent Central North Island Wood Council Forestry Awards held in Rotorua on 4 August.

Gareth was recognised for his contribution to the forestry community following Cyclone Gabrielle, where he rallied the troops and organised donations and deliveries to Tairawhiti and Hawkes Bay contractors in need. This included hooking up with the Shaws crew to drop off propane tanks, Starlink routers, food and water and other essential goods. Shot Gareth!

Featured Contractor: Knight Logging

Zane Knight, owner of Knight Logging, and his operator Johnson Peri, talk about their new T-Winch, which can be operated from the cab using a remote control. Zane says the T-Winch is so easy to use that Johnson stays hooked up all the time when harvesting down the hill – meaning he’s much safer.
